George III 1738-1820
born in London, England, first son of Frederick,
Prince of Wales and Augusta; died in Windsor Castle Jan. 29, 1820; King of
Hannover 1815-1820; King of Great Britain 1760-1820, known as Farmer George
for his simple tastes; 1760 succeeded his grandfather, George II, since his
father died in 1751; 1787 suffered his first bout of mental illness (Porphyria)
while out driving in Windsor Great Park, he descended from his carriage and
addressed a tree as the King of Prussia; had 15 children and a happy marriage
to Princess Charlotte Sophia of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, whom he married Sept.
8, 1761; bouts with madness, his weakening of the Whig party through bribery,
coercion and patronage, and the way he handled the American Revolution eroded
his support; 1801 drove Pitt the Younger from office until 1804; 1811 became
blind and totally deranged, and was kept in straight jackets behind bars
in his private apartments at Windsor Castle, and personal rule was given

Frank Buchman 1878-1961
born in Pennsburg, Pennsylvania; theologian;
started his career with the YMCA; 1908, while visiting England, underwent
a spiritual experience in a church in Keswick, Cumbria, and dedicated his
life to preaching world-changing through life-changing, by personal encounters
and the sharing of personal experience; among those he befriended and influenced
were the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous; 1928 a group of Oxford University
students, inspired by Buchman, took their own message of personal change
to South Africa; the press labelled them the 'Oxford Group', and the name
was applied to Buchman's movement; 1938 founded the Moral Rearmament Association;
MRA's international center in Switzerland was known for its efforts in promoting
post-World War II reconciliation in Europe, particularly between France and
Germany.
Ruth Westheimer 1928-
born Karola Ruth Siegel in Germany; psychosexual
therapist; sent to school in Switzerland at age 10, escaping the Nazi holocaust;
1944 went to Israel to fight in the war of independence as a member of the
Haganah; studied psychology at the Sorbonne and taught kindergarten; 1956
moved to New York, got her PhD in Education at Columbia and studied human
sexuality with Dr. Helen Singer-Kaplan at New York Hospital-Cornell University
Medical Center; 1980 helped pioneer the field of media psychology with her
radio program Sexually Speaking; now part of a communications empire that
distributes her expertise via TV, books, newspapers, games, home video and
computer software.
